The Newest Member of MSC Cruises’ Fleet

- On Sunday 12 July 2009, in Barcelona (Spain), MSC Cruises’ new flagship MSC Splendida was christened in style by screen legend Sophia Loren. The ceremony was accompanied by a special gala show starring world famous tenor José Carreras and other acclaimed artists. A spectacular fireworks display culminated the christening ceremony. Measuring 333.3m in length, MSC Splendida is longer than the Eiffel Tower laid horizontally, and at 66.8m high is as tall as a 23-storey skyscraper.
The New Look of Dawn Princess

- Dawn Princess sailed into Forgacs Cairncross Dockyard in Brisbane on Sunday 7 June for a multi-million dollar makeover. Work includes the addition of two Princess signature features – the Movies Under the Stars giant poolside screen and the adults-only Sanctuary. At 77,000 tons, Dawn Princess is the equal largest ship to be dry-docked in Brisbane. Her twin sister, Sun Princess, was refitted at the dockyard in 2007. The project involved around 250 tradespeople employed by Forgacs Engineering as well as more than 250 Princess Cruises’ contractors, who worked on the internal refurbishment.

Construction Begins

- A ceremony to mark the keel laying of Cunard’s new Queen Elizabeth has been held at the Monfalcone shipyard of Fincantieri near Trieste, Italy. The second largest Cunarder ever built, Queen Elizabeth’s keel is the third Cunard has lain in the space of seven years. When she enters service in October 2010, she will join Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria as not only the most famous ocean liners in the world but also the youngest fleet in passenger travel.
Norwegian Sky Makeover

- Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that Norwegian Sky underwent a complete refurbishment focused on enhancing the guest experience while the 2,002-passenger ship was in dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas. The ship, which entered the Miami short cruise market approximately one year ago, received enhancements to its public areas, staterooms and suites, as well as the addition of three new staterooms.
